Kara Adams is the director of the Community Engaged learning at UW Bothell and the Co-leader of the Digital Scholars Program organized by the office of connected learning. The Office of Connected Learning promotes impactful experiences that enhance teaching, learning, and research. Through its programs, including the Digital Scholars Program, it emphasizes connecting theory to practice, developing adaptive leadership skills, and valuing diverse perspectives at UWB. It connects to Digital equity on how it acknowledges that our successes are rooted in the relationships and human networks that underpin them. I was introduced to Kara upon joining the Digital Scholars Program. In this interview, I asked Kara about her insights on the Digital Scholars Program as the leader of the program.

Q. What is your favorite thing about the Digital Scholars program?

Kara: Stated she witnessed remarkable growth in students' experience between spring-autumn. This growth extends to their social, academic, and professional skills. Kara also expressed her enthusiasm for the culminating moment when students share their experiences and newfound knowledge gained from the program during their summer project presentations. 

Q. How do you think the Program benefits college students?

Kara: Highlighted that the program not only equips students with essential digital skills but also fosters a strong sense of community among participants. Kara pointed out that the program offers students the opportunity to expand their professional and academic networks. Through interactions with professors, mentors, and peers, students can access valuable guidance and career insights, paving the way for future opportunities.

Q. What advice do you have for future students going into the program?

Kara: Emphasized the importance of approaching the program with an open mind. She noted that this openness allows students to not only acquire various digital skills but also provides them with opportunities to explore different tech related majors.
